Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal
A series of devastating earthquakes have hit southern Turkey (now known as Türkiye) and north-west Syria killing over 50,000 people and injuring many more. The first deadly earthquake struck while people were inside their homes, asleep in their beds, with no warning signs. Thousands of buildings, including hospitals and schools, have collapsed and infrastructure has been badly damaged. Local responders are desperately searching through the rubble for survivors. People have been left without shelter in freezing winter conditions and desperately need blankets, emergency shelter, food and clean water. Tens of thousands are injured and hundreds of thousands displaced across a region already beset by turmoil from the nearly 12-year conflict in Syria and the ongoing refugee crisis. Search and rescue teams from around the world are desperately working to locate additional survivors before shifting to recovery efforts.
Food, water, fuel and medicine are slow to reach the hardest-hit areas. Among the tens of thousands of victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria, hundreds of children are languishing in hospitals and shelters without their families and homes. Many roads are broken and split by the violent earthquake and communications remain limited. The U.N. humanitarian office said “needs are vast,” with people urgently requiring shelter, clean water, food, fuel and emergency medical care. Hospitals are struggling to deal with a huge influx of patients, many of whom are suffering major injuries. The strain on health services raises concerns that there may not be enough medical support for all those who need it. Muslim Global Relief is working on the ground to provide life-saving assistance to those in need. Donate to our Emergency Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal today so together we can save precious lives.
Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal: The Aftermath
Thousands have been injured and whole areas have been reduced to rubble. According to latest reports, a combined total of more than 51,000 people have already been confirmed dead across both Turkey and Syria, and is continuing to rise as bodies are recovered from the rubble. The aftershocks will continue for months, adding to the initial destruction. Millions of people have been forced to shelter in tents or out in the open.
The situation on the ground is dire. Tens of thousands of people have been reported injured with many more trapped in the rubble following the terrifying collapse of infrastructure and over 86,000 buildings. In war-torn North West Syria, a lack of infrastructure due to more than a decade of continuing conflict has left the affected population even more vulnerable. Millions of internally displaced Syrians are living in camps, and those hit hard by the crisis are entirely reliant on international aid to assist with this emergency.
