Rohingya Appeal: The Forgotten People

Hundreds of thousands of people have fled violence in Rakhine state, Myanmar, since August 2017 with the majority seeking refuge in Bangladesh. More than 700,000 people, mostly Rohingya women and children, are in urgent need of food, clean water, shelter and medical care after arriving exhausted and traumatised in overflowing camps in Bangladesh – now the largest refugee settlement in the world. As a stateless Muslim minority group in Myanmar, they have faced discrimination, violence and extreme poverty for decades. People are crossing during day and night. You see children who have not slept for days, they are weak and hungry

Most have walked for days, bringing with them harrowing stories of violence. Children are arriving in overcrowded makeshift camps. They are sick, exhausted and in desperate need of food, water and medicine. Many are also clearly traumatised by their experiences. Myanmar’s government does not recognize the Rohingya as lawful citizens. Attacks on the Rohingya have been systematic and widespread, reportedly at the hands of the Myanmar police and military, leading to what the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, called a “textbook example of ethnic cleansing.” Help us provide urgent Rohingya emergency humanitarian relief.
