Building Community Mosques

Home / Building Community Mosques

Why Mosques?

At MGR, we know that without personal and spiritual development, there can be no social development. In most of the villages we work, mosques are the places where personal and spiritual development happens. Mosques also double as community centres and places of learning. It’s where people are united in worship, where men and women come to for solace and support, and where children learn to read.

Reclaim Gift Aid

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows Muslim Global Relief to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to Muslim Global Relief we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Muslim Global Relief to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Muslim Global Relief will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Muslim Global Relief receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.

How it Works

When it comes to developing rural villages, building mosques is secondary to the most basic human needs. That’s why we only build mosques in villages where people have (gained) access to a safe water source, sanitation and food security. The mosques we build are usually in response to an appeal from the village community. In some cases we replace an exiting structure, which is insufficient or un-safe for use. In others, the community has no mosque at all.

What We Do

At MGR we build community mosques in remote villages to aid development. Mosques are where people gather to worship. It’s where children learn religious manners and to read the Holy Qur’an. In mosques villagers are united as a community to practice and better understand their faith, which is vital to development. Faith gives people strength, breeds hope, and inspires social justice as well as the perseverance to improve themselves and their lives.

Faith and Development

Research shows that people living in the developing world trust their churches, mosques and temples more than any other institution. For such people, faith is vital to shaping the attitudes, beliefs and practices that lay the foundation for everyday life.

Faith unites people as a community, gives them strength, breeds hope, and inspires social justice as well as the perseverance to improve themselves and their lives. Within the Islamic context where the concept of Zakat obligates the fair distribution of wealth, faith is integral to development.
