The violence in Gaza has claimed over 31,000 lives, leaving thousands injured, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry - Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Illahi Rajioon. Gaza, under complete siege, faces unthinkable horrors. The pipes supplying Gaza with water have been shut off, leaving over a million children freezing, hungry, and thirsty. Diseases are spreading, compounding the suffering. ‘Hungry, forsaken, dehumanised’ – the UNRWA Chief explains that the civilians living through these conditions feel betrayed by the world. A UN expert has issued a stark warning that hunger is pervasive among every Palestinian in Gaza. Relentless airstrikes have targeted homes, mosques, and hospitals, escalating the death toll. With a ground offensive ongoing, safe places are scarce for 1.8 million displaced people. Despite dangers, our teams are on the ground delivering crucial aid. Yet, we take it for granted. Water is the foundation of life. And still today, all around the world, far too many people spend their entire day searching for it. One billion people in the developing world don’t have access to it. Yet, we take it for granted. Water is the foundation of life, but still all around the world, far too many people spend their entire day searching for it. In places like Africa, time lost gathering water and suffering from water-borne diseases is limiting people’s potential. Education is lost to sickness. Economic development is lost while people merely try to survive. Access to clean drinking water and sanitation is closely linked to children’s education. Many children experience a decrease in their learning potential, which in turn leads to stunted development, lower concentration and poor academic performance. Water scarcity can mean scarcity in availability due to physical shortage, or scarcity in access due to the failure of institutions to ensure a regular supply or due to a lack of adequate infrastructure. Water scarcity already affects every continent. Water use has been growing globally at more than twice the rate of population increase in the last century, and an increasing number of regions are reaching the limit at which water services can be sustainably delivered, especially in arid regions. Nearly half the global population are already living in potential waterscarce areas at least one a month per year and this could increase to some 4.8–5.7 billion in 2050. The Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him and his progeny) has also empha­sized the importance of seeking knowl­edge in different ways: (a) Time: "Seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave." (b) Place: "Seek knowledge even if it is far as China." (c) Gender: "Seeking of knowledge is a duty of every Muslim" (d) Source: "Wisdom is the lost prop­erty of the believer, he should take it even if finds it in the mouth of a mushrik." The Prophet did not only preach about importance of knowledge, he also gave examples of promoting knowledge. In the very first battle between the Muslims and unbelievers or Mecca, known as the war of Badr, the Muslims gain victory and caught seventy kuffars as prisoners of war. One of the criteria of releasing the POWs devised by the Prophet was that those who were literate among the pris­oners could go free if they teach ten Mus­lim children how to read and write. Your efforts to build a mosque come under the heading of righteous deeds. Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “The Mosques of Allah shall be maintained only by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day; perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat and fear none but Allah. It is they who are expected to be on true guidance” [at-Tawbah 9:18]. Uthman ibn Affan reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, then Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.” Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 439, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 533 Ibn Maajah (738) narrated from Jaabir ibn ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever builds a mosque for the sake of Allah, like a sparrow’s nest or even smaller, Allaah will build for him a house in Paradise.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani. What is meant in the hadeeth is to encourage giving even the smallest amount to build a mosque.
